August 2015

There were only a few of us present for our August meeting, and the show and tell was still fabulous.

The faces above were Sheila's results from her stitching while travelling. Ultimately these faces will be made into a quilt.

Wendy has been using Colour Streams Silks, doing just this and that as she feels.

This needlelace is Annette's work in progress. Inspired by an exhibition seen in Melbourne - "Colour Sensation, the works of Melinda Harper". The intended use of the piece will be a see through bag, with areas of the piece not being stitched.

Annette had also been experimenting with Zen Tangle drawings. Using a 1992 diary to collect her drawings, Annette can see these drawings being transformed into blackwork pieces. Thanks also go out to Robyn for introducing Annette to Zen Tangle, and Sheila for the idea of reusing the beautiful diaries that normally get thrown away.

Sheila is continuing on her personal journey to draw every day, well mostly every day.

Our next meeting will be in September. I wonder what will transpire between now and then.

October 14

A short blog post today catching up for our October meeting. Show & tell for the day included the following:-

Above is Susans's 'Earth Stripe' bag. It is her own design, which she has crocheted in a variety of yarns. It has been lined with fabric, which has  also used to make the shoulder straps.  The finished bag has been decorated with a variety of beads and buttons.

This is Gerri's Russian doll  which has been worked from a pattern in Knitting and Crochet magazine.  The doll was completed in a couple of days.

These faces are Sheila's Travel stitching project. They are hand appliqued  using scraps from previous quilting projects, and were inspired inspired by Charla Khanna.

These two pieces are by Wendy, who has been having fun playing with thread, fabric and stitch.

This is Annette's work in progress after  misreading/misremembering the instructions for using thin fabric, wool fleece, dyed cheesecloth and kantha  stitching.  Unknown end result at this stage.

This is Dianne's 'Backyard View' - a class sample in development.

The beginnings of Robyn's Dresden embroidery begun in a class with Christine Bishop.

Our group will be meeting again in a few days. Our collaborative project has been shown & exhibited & we should have our pieces back at our meeting. So come back in a few days and all may well be revealed.

October 2010

Our meeting this month co-in-sided with Guild meetings. (the AGM, the Convenors' meeting, and the Building Project Launch.) As about 4 of our members are officially tied up with these meetings on one way or another, the rest of us tagged along to show our support. There was a good buzz in the room with the architects in attendance, the mayor of Canada Bay council and the federal member of parliament whose wife was there and keen to join the Guild.

Back together as a group, Donna had organised a little stitch project making felt angels using stitches pulled from the hat.

Show & tell produced two wonderful 2" square faces by Sheila. They are samples to see if she could do it, and of course, now wants to do more. So now, the tiniest piece of fabric can’t be thrown away.

Wendy's colourful scarf.
The next two canvas work squares are by Robyn, who is going to turn them into a pincushion.
