March 2010

A very quiet meeting on Saturday with some members attending a meeting in Wagga Wagga.

Show & tell included the next square on Robyn's bag. Inspired by a 1950's style curtain, it includes paint & surface stitching.

This patchwork panel by Robyn is ready to be added into a bag.

Jenny had finished her bobbin lace fish, which will be off travelling to Japan later in the year. Worked in cloth stitch in three different threads, ( including a metallic), with a giant spider in the center and a bead for an eye, the fish is padded with pellon, felt, & organza. He is also double sided so he can hang.

Wendy had added buttons for texture onto this patchwork bag that she had enjoyed making from Libby's left-over fabrics. As they say, "one person's trash in another persons treasure"

February 2010

Our meeting this month was all show & tell.

Sheila had been busy making bags for the Embroiderer's Guild sales table. They were made with a mixture of techniques including patchwork, quilting & FME.

Robyn had been continuing to stitch painted panels on her bag, featuring surface stitching & beading, with some buttons for still more texture.

Robyn had also made this beige linen skirt with 50's retro style surface stitching around the hemline. A close-up of the stitching can be seen here.
Jenny had been playing with more lace. There was this bobbin lace fish, using a mix of threads including a variagated green crochet thread & a green metallic. This little fish is to be part of a coral reef lace display which will travel overseas.
There were also a collection of crocheted flowers, which will eventually be part of donated "goodie bags" for a future Lace Convention.

This piece of drawn thread is a play piece by Jenny, using her own hand dyed fabric & threads.

Donna saw a pattern in a canvas work book which she thought would be perfect for water. This play piece took off from there.

Susan had finished her cushion. The embroidery, completed some years ago, was adapted from a Swedish design. Consisting of mainly satin stitch & straight stitch in Stranded thread, with cotton fabrics added to create borders on the edge.

Wendy had been overseas & had brought back the most beautiful Bengali silk fabric, from a town in Assam. Embroidered all over in running stitches, the piece was quite large, in the Kantha Style, from Sharbari. www.sharbaridatta.com . The pic below shows only a tiny part of the whole piece.

January 2010

A Happy New year to everyone.

This year promises to be a great one for stitching, after all we do have a small exhibition to aim for later in the year. More on that later as the year progresses. We had an informal get together on Saturday, with a great look at all the work on the walls at Guild HQ, a catch up with familiar faces at Summer School, lunch out, & of course the ever popular show & tell over a cuppa.

Goodies on show were as follows:-

Sheila had made this doll, designed by Nola Heart, from Cloth paper Scissors.

There was also this piece ( a snippet) from Sheila using french knots & raised chain band.

Jenny had been playing with more Teneriffe Lace,

as well as some drawn thread work.
There were also hearts for PassionART, to be displayed at the PassionART Outdoor Twilight Festival on Valentines Day.

This one made by Jenny features pieced fabrics & fancy machine embroidery stitches.
The next two by Robyn, one using white fabric & red crazy work stitching, the second one features white candle-wicking on red fabric.

November '09

There were five of us at our meeting this month, with one visitor. Being out last meeting for the year, a few of us had other commitments. Show & tell as always was fantastic.

Robyn had been playing with patchwork which features needle turn, curved piecing, foundation, and free machine embroidery.
Her spirit doll that was begun in August was now conplete.

Jenny had crocheted her daisies together into a scarf,

played with Teneriffe Lace,

and finished her first Bedfordshire Lace bookmark.

Donna was playing with canvas work, exploring stitches into panels that will eventually turn into tote bags.

Libby had finished the Glasses challenge that Sheila had given us in February, but you will have to wait a while until the others are finished & they can all be displayed together.

This was our last meeting for 2009, so come visiting again in January to see what we will get up to in 2010.

October '09

There were just a few of us that showed up for our meeting this month.

Libby as usual had great show & tell. The above two pics are more snippits from her "4 Season's" series.

Robyn had been working on the face of her doll from our August meeting. Come visiting next month to see the finished lady.

During the day Robyn created her own book plate for a newly purchased book that morning.

Jenny sat & created daisies all day from a fancy knitting yarn. Around 90 are required for the project that she has in mind.

After lunch Sheila arrived with her stunning rust dyed samples that were created using washers & nails on fabric dampened with water and/or vinegar.
All in all a quiet day with much magazine & book browsing, lots of cuppas, much chat & visitors from the South Coast.
