February 2016

It's the beginning of another year and last Saturday was the first of our official meetings for 2016. This year will be a little different, as our usual meeting place , Guild headquarters in Concord West, will be experiencing some changes, and we need to find an alternative  meeting place from April onwards. This will never stop us from stitching though.

There were seven of us at out meeting on Saturday, and this included a visit by Donna who moved to the country late last year. We also welcomed a possible new member in Katherine.

Show and tell is always a big part of our day.

Check out part of Sheila's quilt "The Hoi Polloi", made using scraps and leftovers from previous projects. This has been a travel project that has kept her busy for the last four or five years.

Jenny had finally finished stitching on her counted thread round robin sampler. This will now be turned into a work bag.

Donna had made this little cloth doll for a challenge " Story Time". Stuffed head and body, wool wrapped arms and legs, and a felt jacket with a little embroidery.

Jenny was making progress on her Bedfordshire lace hankie edging.

"Fossil Bed" is a finished work by Susan. The piece uses spiders web wheels stitch variations and added beads on rust dyed fabric.

Robyn was starting to stitch her 5cm square using split stitch.

This is Robyn's original drawing of her 5cm square. This drawing is being used as inspiration for the stitching above.

Sheila had made this bag using a kookaburra that she had purchased from the Guild. Although hard to see in this photograph, he is all sequinned, and Sheila now has him sitting on a branch.

The above are little necessaires that Sheila has made using inspiration from one she purchased some years ago. They are made from re-cycled fabric.

"In My Garden" is another finished work by Susan. It is appliquéd and surface stitched on layers of net and satin. Susan is making an effort to use up and recycle her stash.

This piece of Wendy's work is done on a lovely piece of silk/linen. In the process, Wendy has emptied a box of left over Colour Streams silks, doodled with cream stitching to relax, added some pattern darning as the fabric demanded, then added some more stitches on top.

As usual, a great start to the year. We have a new challenge for the year, so please come back in March to see what that is. Our March meeting will also be our last meeting at Guild HQ for a while, so that renovations and updates to the building can happen. We already have a rough plan as to where we will meet while this work goes on, so stay tuned  to see not only what we get up to, but where.
